Shell Launches Shell HomeGenie™ in Dallas/Fort Worth

Shell Oil Company today announced that Shell HomeGenie, a new integrated home management solution, is available in all metro Dallas/Fort Worth CompUSA stores.

Shell HomeGenie is a home management system that provides consumers with simple, remote access to household systems and devices through most web-enabled personal computers, cell phones or personal digital assistants (PDAs).

“We are excited to offer Shell HomeGenie in metro Dallas/Fort Worth, our third launch city,” said Robin Gaeta, general manager for Shell HomeGenie.

“This home management system will offer Dallas/Fort Worth residents peace of mind as they stay connected to their home at anytime and from anywhere.”

CompUSA has ten locations in metro Dallas/Fort Worth and surrounding areas including Arlington, Frisco, Hulen, Hurst, Irving, Lewisville, Mesquite and Plano. Shell HomeGenie is also available for purchase in Atlanta and Houston CompUSA locations as well as online at http://www.shellhomegenie.com/. There are plans for expanded distribution in additional metropolitan areas throughout the United States with nationwide retail availability scheduled for late 2004. 

The Shell HomeGenie Starter Kit is available for $799.99, plus a $24.95 monthly fee. Professional installation is included with purchase. The monthly service fee for Shell HomeGenie provides access to a customizable personal home page where users can monitor their home and control Shell HomeGenie devices. The site also includes access to energy usage reports, an email account, an online calendar and more. The Shell HomeGenie Starter Kit includes one of each of the following features:

• Wireless camera that enables users to remotely view and capture live full-color video and images of select areas in their homes. An integrated motion sensor can be set to capture images and send email or text message notification when the sensor is activated;
• Programmable thermostat with scheduling function that allows users to remotely access their heating and cooling systems;
• Power switch with scheduling function for remotely controlling lamps and many other appliances; and
• Motorola Gateway, which communicates with the Shell HomeGenie devices and connects to the user’s broadband Internet service.

Additional devices, including wired cameras and a variety of sensors (sold separately), may be added at anytime to further customize each user’s Shell HomeGenie Home Management System. Shell partnered with leading hardware and software manufacturers to develop Shell HomeGenie, including Motorola, Sun Microsystems and Xanboo.
