Partnership with the Lions Club of Norco Cans for Sight program

15/10/2004

Shell Norco, Motiva Norco and RPP, are participating in a partnership with the Lions Club of Norco Cans for Sight program to recycle and sell aluminum cans. According to Shell employee Morgan Gregoire, a member of Norco's Recycling Team, all aluminum cans collected at the industrial sites are donated and transported to a Lions Club collection bin. Profits from the sale of the cans are used for a variety of charitable works including funding for eye exams, eyeglasses and eye surgery for those in need.

The cooperative program, entering its third year, totaled 8620 lb in 2003, averaging more than 4000 cans from the Norco facilities each week. Lions Club Treasurer Ronald St. Pierre notes that recent recycling revenue assisted in the funding of a new eye evaluation and diagnosis program for children under the age of five. The local organization has also generated funds for a significant donation to the Louisiana Lions Club Eye Foundation, in association with the Louisiana State University School of Medicine.

The Lions Club collection bin on Good Hope Street is available to members of the community interested in recycling aluminum cans.

Chartered in 1940, the Lions Club of Norco assists in sponsoring attendance at summer camps for disabled sight and hearing children. In addition to the Cans for Sight program, the organization raises funds with its food booth at the Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival and an annual golf tournament.
