International Bank of Commerce partners with Shell for 7th Annual Children’s Clothing Drive

18/03/2004

Shell Exploration & Production Company announces today a partnership with International Bank of Commerce (IBC) to support the "Shareable Wearables" children's clothing drive to be held May 10-16 in the Rio Grande Valley.

IBC will coordinate fundraising at 17 of its locations to raise money to purchase new clothing-- such as children’s socks, underwear and shoes--prior to the 2004 school year.

"Children are our community's greatest asset and IBC is proud to partner in the Shareable Wearables campaign with Shell this year," said R. David Guerra, president IBC—McAllen branch.

Shell will also continue to work with its other sponsors, Shell Hop ‘n Shop Markets, Tejano Marts and the Rio Grande Children’s Home, a ministry of Buckner Children & Family Services.

“We’ve been very successful at receiving more clothing donations each year, but our new partnership with IBC will give the event even more exposure.  We hope that through IBC, we will increase our monetary donations to purchase new clothing items for local children in need,” said Danny Echols, Shell Exploration & Production Company.

Everyone is encouraged to donate their gently worn clothing at various drop-off locations at area schools and Shell Hop ‘n Shop, Tejano Mart and other Shell-branded stores from South Padre to Mission.  IBC will accept monetary donations at select IBC locations in McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco and Alamo.

While the main drive is scheduled for May 14, 15 and 16, collection boxes will be distributed in Shell stations throughout the Valley beginning May 10.

Social service agencies that distributed the donated clothing estimated that more than 12,000 needy children benefited from the “Shareable Wearables” clothing drive last year.
