Shell Sponsors Lone Star Rally “Ride to Rebuild” Galveston Island. Shell Gift Cards to be distributed.
Houston - Attendees at the upcoming Galveston Island Lone Star motorcycle rally will see “Shell yellow” around the island the weekend of December 11, as the company is one of the proud sponsors of the event. Although Shell Oil Products US (Shell) signed up for the opportunity to reach motorcycle enthusiasts, supporting the event became personal after Hurricane Ike devastated the community of Galveston Island.
“We planned to go to the Lone Star Rally to raise awareness of the importance of using quality gasoline, but now we’re also going to show our support for rebuilding Galveston Island,” said Karen Wildman, Shell brand and communications manager.
In addition to providing fuel to emergency response organizations across the Gulf Coast region, Shell Oil Company and Motiva Enterprises LLC are offering a combined pledge of $4 million to support disaster relief efforts. At the rally itself, Shell is providing the diesel fuel to power all of the generators used for the event as well as making it easy for attendees to identify event transportation with Shell V-Power branded shuttle buses.
Since the majority of motorcycles are made to run on premium grade gasoline, Shell Gift Cards will be distributed throughout the event from December 11 - 14 to give attendees the opportunity to try Shell V-Power premium gasoline for themselves.
Roving “Gunk Squads” will randomly distribute free Shell Gift Cards to raise awareness of the fact that Shell V-Power premium grade gasoline stops gunky build-up on critical engine parts and actively cleans as you ride. To “get spotted” by a Gunk Squad member, stop by the Shell tent to pick up a free Shell V-Power sticker.
Attendees who apply for a new Shell Platinum MasterCard account at the rally will not only receive a free Shell Gift Card, they also will be eligible to receive double rebates of 10% on Shell gasoline purchases, which can mean an average savings of 20 cents per gallon at $2.00 a gallon, and 2% rebates on all other purchases for the first 60 days after receiving their card.
After the first 60 days, the everyday Shell Platinum MasterCard value is 5% rebate on Shell gasoline purchases and 1% rebate on all other purchases.
Also, the Shell Racing Experience will provide the opportunity for fans to test their driving skills with the No. 29 Shell/Pennzoil NASCAR show car and racing simulator.
Motorcyclists participating in the rally can plan their routes ahead of time by using the Harley-Davidson® Ride Planner 2.0 at www.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner - opens in new window, a Web-based application that enables motorists to map out any route in the U.S. and identifies all Shell-branded fuel stops along each potential route, making fill-ups with a high quality gasoline a cinch.
