Shell in the Gulf of Mexico
Shell is the leading deepwater producer in the GOM, with gross production averaging 425,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

- Roughly 80 percent of Shell’s U.S. oil and gas production comes from the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).
- Shell is a leading deepwater producer in the GOM.
- Shell-operated GOM gross production peak rates are about 425,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
- Shell has approximately 1,800 contract and full-time employees in the GOM.
- Shell operates five tension leg platforms, one spar and numerous other facilities and subsea systems in the GOM. These assets are either part of our East or West operations.
- Shell facilities in its East GOM portfolio include three tension leg platforms: Mars, Ursa and Ram-Powell, as well as fixed platforms: Cognac, West Delta 143 and Main Pass 252. Subsea systems include Europa, King, Deimos, Crosby, Princess, Mensa, Tahoe, SE Tahoe and Einset.
- Shell facilities in its West GOM portfolio include our newest platform - the Perdido spar, two tension leg platforms Auger and Brutus, as well as fixed platforms: Enchilada, Bullwinkle, Cougar and Boxer. Subsea systems include Macaroni, Serrano, Oregano, Llano, Habanero, Angus, Manatee, Troika, Popeye, Gyrfalcon and Glider.
- Shell currently has four Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) under contract, operating across the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
- Shell also is involved in partner-operated deepwater projects, such as Nakika, Conger, Marlin, Holstein and Morpeth. In instances when Shell is not the operator, it does not manage storm or hurricane procedures for these assets. Shell only has authority for Shell-operated facilities.
