The country is fictional - the challenges are real. If you'd like to explore your potential, the Gourami Business Challenge could be for you.
The Gourami Business Challenge is a five-day multi-disciplinary business event that takes place around the world and offers and ideal opportunity for you to get real insight into our international organization as well as real-world experience in your area of study.
Gourami is representative of Shell's culture, business principles, diversity, operations and true to the risks and challenges faced in the global energy industry.
You'll be able to hone your technical and commercial skills as you develop and present a five-year business plan for Shell in Gourami. In teams, you'll make strategic decisions and recommendations about refining operations, the development of offshore oil and gas discoveries, the supply and marketing of products to customers, as well as look at manpower and costs.
You'll be coached by a multi-disciplinary team of Shell professionals, so you'll get plenty of exposure to our people and culture, as well as time to network and socialize.
Throughout your time in Gourami, we'll be assessing your performance and development as well as providing detailed, structured feedback to help you improve your skills and knowledge further. And at the end of the challenge, if you've demonstrated all the qualities we're looking for, you could receive an offer of a full-time position upon graduation.
Gourami is designed for final year students. You need to be in your final year of study when Gourami takes place. So, if you are scheduled to graduate and receive your degree (Bachelor, Master or Advanced) within 12 months of Gourami, you are invited to apply.
To be considered for the Gourami Business Challenge, students must have a cumulative GPA of GPA of 3.5 (on 4.0 scale) and major in one of the following disciplines:
- Chemical engineering
- Civil engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Finance
- Geoscience
- Human resources (Masters only)
- Marketing
- Petroleum engineering
- Sales
- Supply chain

You’ll gain an accurate insight into the energy business - from the upstream operations of Exploration & Production to the downstream operations of Refining and Marketing. You’ll also learn about the servicing operations that support these, including Finance and Human Resources.
