Personal Development Award

Here at Shell, our commitment to personal development extends beyond our own employees. That's why, every year, we offer a number of grants to support students in achieving their personal goals and ambitions.

There are a whole host of activities you could do with the support of Shell's Personal Development Award. You might try, for example:

  • Attending a regional or national conference (NSBE, SPE, AICHE, SWE, etc)
  • Learning a new language
  • Volunteering on a community project
  • Getting involved in a not-for-profit program
  • Conducting research /building a project in an area of interest
  • Competing in a triathlon, iron man, etc
  • Another way you would like to develop yourself - let us be the judge

If you receive an award, there are no strings attached and no obligations - other than to come back and share with us the experience made possible with the award. Recipients have 9 months to use the grant and provide a single page summary of their learning.

But if you wish to take your application with Shell further - through an internship, the Shell Gourami Business Challenge, or even full-time employment - the opportunities are endless. Applications are welcome all year round.

If you'd like to develop your skills in a brand new way and you're a student majoring in engineering (petroleum, mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical, etc.), geosciences, accounting, finance, human resources, or supply chain management, then chances are you could be eligible for an award.

Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on 4.0 scale) and be pursuing either their undergraduate, masters or Ph.D. degree. Seniors will only be considered if they are en-route to graduate school.

To apply for a Personal Development Award follow these simple steps. 

  • Download and complete the attached Request Form (PDF, 21 KB) - opens in new window
  • Fill in the Data Protection section and enter your personal details
  • You’ll then be asked to validate your email address. Once validated, you can then log on to your account
  • Select Personal Development Award from the opportunities page
  • As part of your application, be sure to upload the attached Request Form along with your Resume
  • Then submit your application
