Why did you join Shell?
I joined Shell because I wanted to work for a company active in exploration that was an industry leader in technical and business excellence. Shell's history and pioneering exploration spirit were a great fit.
It was also important for me to have the opportunity to further develop my skills through training. Shell's industry leading training and structured new-hire training program were ideal.
How would you describe your role at Shell?
I work as a geophysicist in an exploration group where I actively explore for major prospects in the Gulf of Mexico using seismic and well data. I primarily stay on land and perform the lead technical work to evaluate prospects. If further seismic data is required, I might need to go offshore to monitor seismic acquisition and perform basic quality assurance.
What do you like most about the job?
Best thing about my job is that it's an opportunity to do true exploration and add value. I try to solve puzzles - figure out what's going on in subsurface - and see if it's commercially viable. It also gives me satisfaction to work on large scope projects that may have an impact on the company, industry, and nation.
But what makes the job really enjoyable is the people I work with. My coworkers are experienced, intelligent, and willing to discuss issues - both technical and commercial. The level of interaction and learning that occurs is beyond my expectations.
What are your future career plans?
I love doing exploration and would like to stay within E&P to get more experienced. It would be great to be a leader in the exploration community in a role that could be technical or commercial.
