  • University: San Jacinto College, Pasadena, Central Campus
  • Studied: Process Technology
  • Joined Shell: August 2000

Why did you join Shell?

I wanted to work for a premier oil and gas company. I chose Shell, in part, due to its reputation and stability.

How would you describe your role at Shell?

I work on a production team responsible for an Alkylation Unit. Motor Alkylate is what gives gasoline its octane. We use various hydrocarbon feed stocks in a sulfuric acid reaction and distillation process to make motor alkylate as a finished product.

Our unit maintains 10 reactors that are used to produce motor alkylate. Our main responsibility is to make sure all associated equipment is running, permit jobs when needed and ensure a safe environment. I'm really fortunate that the unit I work in was built in the late 90's, so we are working with all the latest technology.

What do you like most about the job?

I enjoy the people and teamwork, most people have been here 20+ years - they have a lot of knowledge to offer - it's like a small family. I really like the opportunity to influence HSE standards. We are encouraged to generate ideas to make units more efficient and safer. Our ideas are then passed over to Project Engineers who work with us to make them a reality.
