  • University: Prairie View A&M
  • Studied: Electrical Engineering
  • Joined Shell: February 2001

Why did you join Shell?

I was an intern for two summers at Shell, and of all my internships (5 total), I liked Shell best. During my summer internships, the people were welcoming and open to helping you with anything you needed. I liked the people and the diversity. There are all types of ethnicities and ideas in my group and we all work well together - I liked learning how to work around differences.

Since Shell is a global company, opportunities are available to work with many other people and in other countries. I like the telecommunications aspect of Information Technology, and at Shell there's a whole lot of opportunity for learning and you can structure your own learning and training based on your interests.

How would you describe your role at Shell?

I am a Telecom Consultant in the ITIP (Information Technology Infrastructure Projects.) telecom group. I am responsible designing, configuring, and implementing telecom technologies as well as providing telecom project management within the America's region for IT4Shell of the Shell Group of companies. It can be a physically oriented job with regard to assets and as an implementer, I am touching, configuring, and installing hardware. As a project manager, I scope deliverables, create schedules and budgets, project and change control, manage goals and delegate responsibilities, as well as communicate with the customer.

What do you like most about the job?

There's a lot to learn and work can be very challenging and there is the opportunity to cross-train in other areas of IT other than network infrastructure. I like the flexibility to do my job and the type of work that I'm doing. I can work around schedules and still have time to get my work done.
