Why did you join Shell?
The main reason I joined Shell was the people. I had a great interview experience on campus from a Shell contact I made at the Career Fair held at my university. Then, on my site visit to New Orleans, I discovered that I liked the people I met at the plant and knowing that I would contribute to something global.
When I came to Shell, I discovered what they had promised me: responsibility from day one. And I liked that I was expected to meet my team right away, make friends and valuable connections, and to not just sit in my office and crunch numbers while hitting the books all day long.
How would you describe your role at Shell?
Challenging. I am on a steep learning curve, but it’s exciting because anything I work on, I can then drive out to the refinery and look at the physical results. I work on the front end of projects, primarily process design work, with a diverse network of people in integrated groups. For example, an operation support engineer or operator will submit an idea to the projects group. Then, we, the projects group, will design and implement the idea into the refinery in a safe, cost-effective manner.
What do you like most about the job?
I like the role that has been defined for this position - taking an idea from someone who has worked within a unit, knows it inside and out, and has something to offer that will enhance its performance and making it reality.
