Rebuild America: 2013 NUL Conference and Shell

The annual NUL conference brings together thousands of the nation’s most influential community leaders, policy makers, academicians, business executives and every day citizens to address specific issues in urban communities and the essential role of education as a force for change.

Shell partners with NUL to convey the energy message that is specifically addressed with engaging workshops on education, entrepreneurship, job creation, small business development and the empowerment of young African American males and females.

Shell is able to reach more than 6000 attendees to ensure that they are aware of key initiatives that sustain value through inclusion while building trust and influence with local and diverse communities.  These strategic relationships align Shell business objectives with community needs.  By supporting these organizations and conferences, we strengthen and empower people and communities.

The Shell and NUL Partnership

Shell has a long-standing relationship with the NUL, with many of Shell’s senior leaders serving on the board.  Tracy Faulkner is the most current Shell Executive to serve on this distinguished board as an NUL Board Trustee.

The National Urban League supports Shell’s business objectives with programs that address entrepreneurship and higher education.  One of the significant achievements that aligned with NUL’s mission happened back in January 2007.  Shell & Motiva formally announced an agreement with NUL to enhance its on-going efforts to increase diversity in the Shell-branded retail network.

The mission of this partnership was to encourage qualified minority candidates to seek opportunities in the retail fuels industry.  Shell/Motiva’s retail team is still the key sponsor of the Shell Expo Booth during the conference.

Shell’s participation at this year’s conference

Shell will be highly active in the 2013 NUL conference:

Shell plans on working with NUL attendees to educate consumers on trends in our retail industry as it relates to brand marketing, energy consumption and consumer responsibilities.

We will also highlight areas like recruitment, jobs of the future/workforce development, and bring attendees up to speed on our Supplier Diversity Programs that closely links to entrepreneurship and encourages small business development.

Shell will have a host of leaders available for dialogue throughout the 4 days of the conference and will participate in the Expo Hall with a team of Shell staff members available to talk about jobs, energy, entrepreneurship, and consumer responsibilities.

Shell will also be present on several conference panels.  This will allow attendees to ask key questions about “How to do Business,” with Shell.  The attendees will also hear from one of Shell’s key suppliers who will talk about their successful approach towards sustainability and growth in an ever changing global marketplace.
