Shell and NCLR 2013: Driving Energy, Innovation, and Careers
Shell’s Francene Young and KIPP’s Jessica Cerda take the stage at the 2012 NCLR Conference!
2013 Conference Theme: “Rise As One”
“Rise As One” communicates the aspiration of working with other diverse communities to bridge a divide and achieve solutions to our shared challenges.
This theme highlights ascension to better opportunities, respect, and awareness as it relates to the improved image, position, and power of our communities within the nation.
"Rise As One" resonates in the landscape of the Gulf South where there has been an absence, until now, of catalysts to inspire conversation about the need for unity among communities of color.
This theme speaks to the importance of growing opportunities for the good of the whole community, not just for the benefit of Latino families.
“Rise As One” also speaks to upward movement and demonstrates that while we’ve come a long way, we still have a long way to go and this journey can best be accomplished together.

Shell’s Long-Standing Relationship with NCLR
Shell’s corporate partnership with NCLR is highlighted by our support of the NCLR Escalera program, delivered through an exciting relationship with KIPP Houston High School in Southwest Houston.
The foundation of this relationship is our focus on connecting students to advanced educational resources and opportunities. Shell colleagues volunteer their time to help deliver these connections through internships, job shadowing, mentoring and college entrance information, especially for technical related degrees and careers.

Shell’s participation at this year’s conference
New Orleans provides the perfect backdrop for Shell to provide conference attendees with unique insight into the global renaissance of energy, including renewable and traditional energy sources. In addition, we plan to build on STEM-filled expectation by helping to connect energy education, innovation and real-life career options to the “Hearts and Minds” of students and adults alike. Join us in taking STEM from “Geek” to “Cool”!
