Post-Tropical Storm Sandy Update #9

Millions of Americans and numerous industries were heavily impacted by Superstorm Sandy. Terminals operated by the petroleum industry within the storm surge were impacted by flooding, power interruptions and other issues, and this is having a significant effect on consumers in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

Shell and Motiva are striving to meet supply needs despite disruptions in supply and logistics caused by the aftermath of the storm. We are working around-the-clock to meet the needs of consumers in the market, though re-establishing and maintaining product supply to the most heavily-hit areas is challenging, and some markets will experience temporary outages. Until terminals have resumed full capacity operations, conservation is a necessity.

Shell and Motiva appreciate consumers’ efforts to conserve fuel and avoid unnecessary driving while Shell-branded stations are being reopened and restocked. This helps expedite fuel supply restoration, helps avoid long lines and helps avoid temporary outages at stations that are currently being restocked.

We are working with our wholesalers to supply all Shell sites as soon as possible, and continue to coordinate with other suppliers in the marketplace to identify alternate supply terminals and move product to those supply points closest to the impacted areas.
