Martinez Refinery Honors Law Enforcement and Firefighters
Two counties' firetrucks displaying flag. Contra Costa Sheriff Dave Livingston far right.
It was held this morning at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, and it was a very nice event. Two fire trucks, one from Alameda County and one from Moraga fire, held up a large American flag on their truck ladders at the front of the campus, and motorcyles from various departments along with sheriff’s patrol vehicles from Alameda and Contra Costa counties were displayed in front of the college chapel.
Four priests celebrated the mass, and an interfaith part of the service included six ministers of other faiths who offered short sermons and prayers for the men and women who serve and protect our cities and counties. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s bagpipe and drum band performed Amazing Grace, and there was a two-county honor guard that took part in the procession before and after the mass.
The mass was followed by a barbecue on the college’s front lawn, allowing the men and women in blue (and uniforms of other colors) to mingle and share a meal. Shell Martinez provided a shuttle bus serve between the staging area and the chapel.
It was a very fitting tribute to these important agencies.
