Maintenance To Impact Local Traffic

Maintenance “turnarounds” underway at Shell Deer Park are adding to traffic congestion on the State Highway 225 westbound feeder road where it intersects with Tenneco Road and Tidal Road.  The number of additional contract workers at Shell will increase in early October and will decline as the projects are completed in late November.

Heaviest traffic will be occurring during shift changes from 5 - 8 a.m. and 5 - 8 p.m. daily, with reduced staffing on Sundays.  Shell has arranged for Harris County sheriff’s deputies to assist with traffic control.

Because the turnarounds involve shutting down and restarting process units, there is the possibility of higher than normal flaring during these periods. We have procedures in place to minimize flaring at all times.
