Day of Pampering for Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Providing a day of service, friendship, and education was the purpose of Shell Deer Park's annual "Day of Pampering" for the women of the Bridge Over Troubled Waters, a Pasadena shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
The annual community outreach program co-hosted by Deer Park's SERVE and WAVE networks fell just before Mother's Day this year and provided an opportunity to pay special homage to the mothers in the group.
It was all smiles on both the volunteers and the guests at the Day of Pampering
The Day of Pampering for the guests from the Bridge included beauty treatments by the San Jacinto College Cosmetology students, followed by a formal three-course lunch catered by the Culinary department and served by Shell volunteers. Tracie Molik, the event organizer, commented: “It was truly heartwarming to see how each of the volunteers touched the lives of the ladies of The Bridge. Thank you for your caring hearts and beautiful smiles. I know it made them feel like a million bucks!"

The program also included an educational component on personal development. Lynne Buchanan, the SLT sponsor for the Bridge, kicked off the speakers program with welcome remarks and Darylene Harris, Hydro/Sulfur Operations Manager, led an interactive discussion on effectively presenting oneself.

In the weeks leading up to the event, WAVE hosted a beauty supplies drive -- resulting in a generous collection of 7 boxes of donations --- which were used to assemble toiletry kits for the guests. As the ladies of the Bridge ended their Day of Pampering, each was gifted with a hug and a goody bag loaded with beauty supplies.
