Happy 175th, Texas!
As part of the annual Totally Texas Festival sponsored by the City of Deer Park on April 9th, a special parade was held this year in honor of Texas independence -- decisively won 175 years ago a stone's throw away at San Jacinto. Joining right along in this 'monumental' milestone were 147 employees from Shell's Emergency Response Team who provided brightly decorated fire trucks and floats emblazoned with the Shell Pecten, and came to the celebration bearing plenty of state -- and company -- pride.
"Ain't no party like a Deer Park party...."
Among the many observances of the state's 175th birthday this year, Deer Park hosted its own party in the Totally Texas Festival which featured live music, a cook-off, a beauty pageant, kids carnival, and a myriad of other family activities. The parade was one of the highlights of the weekend festivities.
Said Mike Knott of his colleagues in Emergency Response, "Each of us played a very big part in this celebration -- from the shifts that decorated the trucks and floats and washed everything to the shift that helped cook on Saturday and so many others....thanks to the ERT who came out to wish the great state of Texas a happy 175th birthday."
