DeeDee Jonrowe: Another racer fueled by Shell
Shell is proud to sponsor Jonrowe as she continues to generate worldwide attention on the Last Great Race.
DeeDee has always been an adventurer. She was born in Germany, began elementary school in Ethiopia, attended junior high in Japan and graduated high school in Virginia. Then in 1971 she arrived in Alaska. She traveled the state as a biologist and a commercial fisherman, but then discovered a passion for dogs and mushing.
When you become a musher, you set your sights on the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which traverses more than 1,000 miles of the state. Jonrowe has now participated in 32 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Races, finishing in the top-10 16 times and as a runner-up three times.
“I have had many successes and disappointments in my life, but one element has remained consistent: I have always tried to do my very best and I have always enjoyed the special bond and love that I share with my dogs,” DeeDee says.
DeeDee was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. Three weeks after completing chemotherapy in 2003, she placed 18th in the Iditarod. She also participated in the Ironman in Kona, Hawaii in 2006. She has received countless awards and recognition for her work with causes dear to her.
