Shell Participates in Alaska State Lease Sale
On December 7, 2011, Shell announced it participated in the Alaska State Department of Natural Resources (ADNR), Division of Oil and Gas (DO&G), public lease sale for oil and gas in the Beaufort Sea. Shell submitted 18 bids on tracts in the shallow state owned waters west of Harrison Bay.
"Shell's participation in today's lease sale underscores our ambition to be a long-term partner with the State of Alaska and to build a generational business in the Alaska offshore," said Pete Slaiby, Alaska Venture Vice President.
While there could be commercial synergies between Shell’s current offshore acreage and the State leases we bid for, our clear focus remains exploring our Federal leases in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas in July of 2012.
As part of any possible future plans to explore these leases, we would of course engage appropriately with key stakeholders.
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (ADNR), Division of Oil and Gas (DO&G), announced a public offer of state lands for competitive oil and gas leasing in the Beaufort Sea, North Slope and North Slope Foothills on September 27. Bids were submitted on Monday December 5, with public bid opening on December 7.
This will be the first time since Shell re-entered Alaska in 2005 that Shell has participated in a North Slope State Lease Sale.
