BOEM Deems 2012 Chukchi Sea Exploration Plan Submitted
Prior to this determination, we responded to several requests from the agency for additional information related to this shallow-water exploration plan and we look forward to a final determination on December 16th.
In the meantime, we will continue to monitor permitting progress, including the status of our Oil Spill Response Contingency Plan (C-Plan) – a version of which had been previously approved before the addition of an Arctic capping and containment system.
Shell‘s Chukchi Sea Plan of Exploration includes drilling up to three wells per year beginning in July 2012. Shell plans to employ world-class technology and experience to ensure a safe, environmentally responsible Arctic exploration program – one that has the smallest possible footprint on the environment and no negative impact on North Slope or Northwest Arctic traditional subsistence hunting activities.
