Shell takes great pride in the communities where we live and work, from volunteerism and sponsorships to how we conduct our everyday business. We place sustainable development at the core of business decisions. For us, it means helping to meet the world’s growing energy needs in economically, environmentally and socially responsible ways. In short, we are helping to secure a responsible energy future.
To deliver sustainable results, we ensure that the risks and opportunities associated with our projects and operations in areas such as health, safety, security, environment, social performance and permitting are understood and integrated into our decision-making.
Social performance is how we manage the impacts of our business on the communities and societies in which we operate. This includes
- Listening to and engaging with local stakeholders;
- Investing in local communities;
- Striving to deliver benefits such as jobs and social investment; and
- Taking an active interest in broader societal issues directly or indirectly related to our business.
In line with our commitment, Shell is eager to work with our prospective neighbors and other interested parties as we continue evaluating and planning our proposed facility. It is important to us that we listen to community input to enhance potential project benefits, as well as identify and address potential concerns.
As with all major Shell projects, we are developing a plan to help assess and address potential impacts. We will combine community feedback with expert studies to better understand how the facility may affect the environmental, social and health status of the community, and identify how to appropriately enhance, eliminate, minimize or mitigate those impacts. After community review of the findings, we will use the report to help guide project planning.
