Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil race team will compete for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup series championship title this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Logano notched a sixth-place result at the Phoenix International Raceway race, good enough to allow him to qualify for the championship round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Shell and Pennzoil scientists work with Team Penske all season to customize Pennzoil racing oil for the No. 22 car that has put Logano as one of the four drivers qualified to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title this weekend. Drivers Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing), Ryan Newman (Richard Childress Racing), and Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) will compete with Logano for the title. Under the hood of the No. 22 car is Shell PurePlus Technology with Pennzoil Active Cleansing Agents that is now commercially available in Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum motor oils.

Throughout the season, Shell and Pennzoil scientists work closely with the Penske Racing team to support strong product development for use both on and off the track,” said Paul Bogers, General Manager of Lubricants Technology at Shell Oil. “The knowledge we gain at the track is the cornerstone to developing high quality products for our customers.”

Team Penske could become the first team to win both IndyCar and NASCAR titles in the same season with a win from Logano.  In addition, Roger Penske is leading the Owner’s Championship standings in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion.  NASCAR awards both an Owner and Driver championship in its three major touring series.
